Abstract Zeitgeist

A group show of abstract art from emerging Scottish artists.

10.09.2021 – 12.09.2021

The Biscuit Factory, Edinburgh.

The Rafiki Gallery is incredibly excited to announce its upcoming exhibition, ‘Abstract Zeitgeist’. The exhibition will take place at The Biscuit Factory, Edinburgh from the 10th – 12th September.

‘Abstract Zeitgeist’ features 15 emerging artists, all of whom employ an abstract style in their work. The selected artists were all trained at Scottish art institutions and are now spread across the UK.

The show is entitled ‘Zeitgeist’, meaning ‘spirit of an age’, as each artist is either directly or indirectly reacting to their own experiences, thoughts, and emotions in their work. ‘Abstract Zeitgeist’ intends to celebrate the unique voices of these artists and offer an alternative view into contemporary culture, far from the digital, screen driven world in which we find ourselves.

Something evident in these works is the non-ironic and Romantic dedication to the act of mark making. Humans have always made marks, from cave paintings to high court portraiture, and it has remained enduringly prevalent in our society. This exhibition offers an opportunity to see a selection of paintings which serve as a product of our current age.
